William Scott: Scott Free Movement

THE SCOTT FREE MOVEMENT - January 2, 2008

The Scott Free Movement

The Scott Free Movement is a freedom and truth movement which began in the mind and music of artist William Scott. His movement is devoted to the constant pursuit of truth, justice, acceptance, and unity; First within the whole African-descended community, and secondly within all people and social groups.

To be Scott Free means that you are dedicated to the demolition of stereotypes and falsehoods that have been thoroughly sewn throughout the fabric of our society and that keep us divided.

To Be Scott Free
Starts with self-examination. How do you contribute to the problem? (Self hatred, disempowering statements or thoughts, silence in the face of adversity, delusion, fear of truth- ones own truth- denying what is fact, unaccepting of peoples differences, etc.)

Work to remedy these problems. Admit to yourself that the freedom you seek can only be found through truth.

Seek out truth. Be committed to educating yourself and others by learning instead of assuming you know or understand something you do not. This means talking to people whom you usually would not, going places you normally would not, reading and investigating at all cost and by doing so, you trade fables for facts, build relationships and understanding.

Acceptance defined by Websters dictionary has several meanings to choose from, the most potent being To believe in. I choose this one because it also defines one of the most deeply rooted problems within the black community- the disbelief in ourselves individually and collectively. So in our truth seeking and our eventual understanding of these things new and different about our history, ourselves and others in our community, we must not only acknowledge these truths, we must choose to Believe In them. We must choose to believe that we are all descendants of proud and brilliant people and that we can all achieve greatness. We must believe that this truth includes all of us- Man/Woman, Heterosexual/Homosexual, Same Gender Loving/Gay, Disabled/Able, Lightskinned/Darkskinned, Transgender, African/African-American/Caribbean Islander, Rich/Poor, Young/Old, Educated/Non-Educated and Miseducated.

For we can only have true freedom once we are all free.

The problem with forgetting the past, is that history often repeats itself. Unfortunately America from an African American perspective, has some pretty ugly history. Today it's blue skies and purple mountains majesty, tomorrow it's "Nigger" and "Nooses." If this country is going to be as great as the songs we write about it, then we must demand consistency in legislation and the judicial systems that govern even the tiny back-wood towns in the south. It is 2007. Do you know where your children are? Let's not sit on our hands and pretend this is an isolated incident that happened in some uncivilized third world country. This is happening in America! Which means it might as well be happening in your backyard. Wake Up!

This is another example of the ignorance, hatred and disconnect our people suffer from. Wake up Jamaica and wake up world! We are all family! - February 27, 2007

This is rediculous and it can not continue to be tolerated anywhere!!!

Cops save three alleged homosexuals from angry crowd

KARYL WALKER, Observer staff reporter
Thursday, February 15, 2007

These three men, who were branded as homosexuals, are rescued by the police after being locked inside the Monarch Pharmacy in St Andrew for about an hour yesterday. THREE men branded as homosexuals were yesterday rescued by the police from an angry mob outside a pharmacy in Tropical Plaza, where they had been holed up for almost an hour.

But even after the police managed to take the young men from the Monarch Pharmacy, one of the three was hit with a stone, forcing officers to fire tear gas on the crowd which included men, women, teenagers and small children.

The approximately 2,000 people gathered outside the Kingston pharmacy hurled insults at the three men, with some calling for them to be killed.

The crowd grew larger as the minutes ticked by and the three men and staff inside the pharmacy were visibly terrified as the mob demanded that they be sent out so they could administer their brand of justice. "Send them out!" shouted one man.

The men, who all had bleached-out faces, and dressed in tight jeans pants and skimpy shirts, were saved due to quick action by police from the St Andrew Central Division.
When the officers arrived and attempted to push the crowd back from the front door of the businessplace they were greeted with some resistance and when they attempted to escort the men to a police service vehicle, which was parked near to the entrance of the pharmacy, one of the alleged homosexuals was hit on the back of the head with a stone as he flashed a wry smile before attempting to hustle inside the police car.

The cops were forced to disperse the large mob by dispensing tear gas canisters and whisking the men away as the crowd scampered in all directions in an effort to escape the irritating fumes.

One man in the crowd was determined to get a chance to beat them and hurled insults at the police when they drove out of the premises.

"Unu can come save them nasty boy yah? Them boy yah fi go down," the man bellowed.

One woman expressed surprise at the brazenness of the men who were clearly displaying effeminate behaviour.
"Jamaica has lost its way if men think they can openly flaunt being gay without any consequences. We don't want that kind of open gay life in this country," the woman said.

Homosexuality is frowned upon in Jamaica and gay rights groups have constantly branded the island as anti-gay.

Under Jamaican law a male can be slapped with a sentence of up to nine years if caught in a compromising position with another man.

For those of you who think it's over, RACISM and IGNORANCE are alive and well! - February 25, 2007

This should be another rude awakening for us descendants of Africans, us descendants of slaves.

This is a response posting on aol.com about the latest news that the state of Virginia has formally apologized and expresses "profound regret" in regards to it's role in slavery. This message was posted by a white person.

------------"so it wasnt enough that we offered you a trip back to your own continent even made you a country called liberia... or the fact that it was your own people who sold you into slavery, even created a language that was mutually understood by white slave buyers and the other africans to sell out their people swahili (not sure on spelling). but now we are apologzing again? there is no reasoni to apologize anymore... it is not like you have risen to prominent members of society. the pinnacle of your ascent into the ranks of normal civilized people ended with martin luther king, since then you have not had a person that can represent you well. i mean come on most black people that you know by name are rap artist or athletes that glorify being ghetto. thats fine if you want to be ghetto dont complain when you get treated like a criminal or when you are profiled. but if you want an apology be a real fuckin citizen try to better yourself through REAL education not scholarships and shit degrees. if you want sympathy, dont drive a fucking suv with rims and a stereo... be a decent member of society and people will not have to apologize and will accept you as a human being, and look past the color of your skin. as long as you behave in a way that outcasts you, you will be outcasted.."

*END QUOTE*

First let me say this, I do not hate white people or any other people for that matter. I also do not place blame on anyone who is not historically or systematically connected to the continuing enslavement of my people. Any African American who is honest with him or herself knows the truth of our current condition. As my mother once said to me, "Hate is a very strong word. If your going to use it, be sure you mean it." I am very certain at this point that I hate ignorance with everything in me . This hate is consistant wherever ignorance is found, whether it be found in the belly of a young black child, in the eye of an old white woman or even within myself. So I must speak on this issue just as I would address anyone of my own. When you talk about slavery--invading someone elses land, breaking villages and families apart, brutally destroying the bodies and minds of countless men, women and children by mutilation, rape. Watching your leaders and teachers, fathers and mothers dehumanized, mangled and broken. Seeing your strong ones become weak not once but over and over again all the way up until today. It could make a man hopeless. It could tame him, make him a slave. A slave in his own mind always desiring a way out but not thinking, knowing that he would never be strong enough to change things because they- the strong ones- were not even able to do it. So how could he. The point- is that it is no one's fault how the human mind works. But the simple fact of the matter is, if you tell a man that he is stupid for his entire life, chances are he is going to oneday believe it. True it is an outside force that has led him to this conclusion. But it is he himself who is in control and has made the decision to give in to this deceit. Very true. But let's get one thing straight, SLAVERY WAS NOT POLITE. A very forceful and manipulative hand forced the hard and bitter bread of slavery down our throats. That sinister hand is even more guilty than the hand that enslaved itself, because it did not have permission. The intent was to enslave the hands of an entire people leaving their hands entirely free to conquer all. In my opinion Black people know about our contributions to our own demise. I think the result of that guilt is what you see on the news every night, what you sometimes hear in Hip Hop music and see in the videos and even in our own lives. Extreme Anger, Violence, Hate Crimes, theft, Black people hurting Black people are all manifestations of us not being able to constructively deal with the fact that we are partially in some way, shape or form responsible for our circumstances. A lot of our spirits are still trying to figure out how we got here. The ground is still loose in America for Black people. It is an empire that was built on our backs yet built so high we could never climb up to the top. The soil of America was turned in blood and until we are given some solid ground to stand on nothing will change. White America must stand back and give us room to work through our own issues as a family of people. While in waiting though apologies can not ressurect the countless thousands of Black people that were lynched and mamed, white American's should continue to apologize until their throats are raw and sore from even breathing. White people who do not think of themselves as racist should also work on being conscious enough of the consistant systematic oppression of African Americans today that they do not do away with programs like AFFIRMATIVE ACTION. In fact they should assist us in creating additional massive programs that combat inequality. (You guys had a huuuuugggggeeee head start!) In closing I will leave you with my final thought. America will certainly never be the land of the free and the home of the brave until it and all of it's states are courageous enough to say, "Pass the soap Virginia, my hands are dirty too."

A POEM- FREEDOM COME! - March 31, 2006

Freedom come down from that old rotten cross
Rip your tortured flesh from the rusty nail's of injustice
Release yourself from crusifiction
Do not die for me
Fall freely down into your people's arms
Let their oppression catch you rap you in their tears
Make poor men rich and blind men see that this is not the end
Let them know that from Freedom's blood they will gain their privilage
Heal the sick and surely raise up my Malcolm's and Martin's and Marcus's and Harriet's and Rosa's and Corretta's and Tut's and Isis's and Osiris's and Amadu's and Raheem's and Malik's and Jamal's and Brandon's and William's
Give them weapons of love and armour them with wisdom
Unite them for whatever is to come
Rip from their mouths the fruit of ignorance
Turn Faggot to Brother
Bitch to Sister and Mother
Let Niggah return to the place from which it came
Freedom Come!
Reveal to us our true name
Let those who are living give the dead peace
Freedom Come!
And end this mental slavery
Say to us the speech that will inspire a new generation
Freedom Come!
Destroy the tradition of prejudice, hatred and violence in this nation
Freedom Come!
Use who so ever reads these words
Freedom Come!
Freedom Come!
And by all means let your voice finally be heard!

A POEM- FEAR NOT (Words We Need to Hear!) - March 30, 2006

Fear Not
For the thing about love is that it cannot be stolen

It cannot be plucked like a flower disconnected from its roots

It cannot be shackled and hauled away to some foreign land and branded for hatred

It cannot be made to eat away at itself like a starved dog

Or worked until some arrogant rich man is richer

Love is like the skin of a Beautiful Black African slave

Thick and Hard

And like that skin they cannot ever know our love

It is too beautiful, too gallant, and too proud!

Thick and Hard skin,

Even whipped cannot be broken- like our love.

-William Scott
